Sarah Abigail Hawkins
Sarah Hawkins is an experimental animator and visual artist primarily from the south. She received her BFA in Kinetic Imaging from VCUArts in May 2022, and will receive her MFA in Experimental Animation from CalArts in May 2026. She assistant taught animation at the PreCollege Summer Intensive at VCU and became a teaching artist for animation and augmented reality at Art 180 in Richmond, VA in 2023. Sarah has taught arts and crafts classes at the Autism Society of Central Virginia, as well as the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History. She has worked with Ralph K. Hawkins to do 3 Illustrations for published books Ancient Wisdom for the Good Life, as well as 20 illustrations for The Last Enemy to be Destroyed. Most recently, she has been a teacher's assistant at CalArts, as well as taught a winter class there called Drawing the Unconscious.
Sarah is a traditional illustrator and animator whose overall passion is to work with her hands. She fully believes in the healing nature of art and its ability to connect one to the self. While using art as a means of self expression and a therapeutic tool for herself, she also wants to continue to teach others and advocate for others' to explore the self and heal through an artistic practice.
